The main method of catching tuna is deep-sea trolling. An important role in the catch is played by chumming: smaller fish are cut into pieces and thrown into the wake. The purpose of chumming is to create a clear food trail along the boat's course.
Bait can include small mackerel, octopuses, squids, etc.
Catching tuna largely depends on its size. After hooking a large individual, it is recommended to remove the rod from the holder and insert it into the waist support. The reel must be fast, as tuna is a very fast fish, and when the line loosens, it is important to quickly tighten it.
The fishing trip usually ends with a photo session with the catch and a dinner under the open sky.
Important note: fishing for bluefin tuna in Spain is prohibited for recreational fishing, so we take photos with such specimens and release them. Other tuna species can be kept. From May to October, we catch many sharks.
